1/72 Academy - F-104G Starfighter - German Navy

1/72 Academy 12443
Lockheed F-104G Starfighter, German Navy, MFG 2, 23+25.
I would estimate it was in the 1980s.

Notorious decals and fitting - as you can expect from the early Academy kits. I love the 104, and decided to use this as a starter for building jet aircrafts (I only built propeller aircrafts before). Brush painted.

I did quite some research and found out that this mold has several inaccuracies and lack of details, such as: wrong size for air intake cones, wrong canopy size and its frame (front side should be an "oval" shape instead of straight corners), horrifying pilot figure, inexistent cockpit detail, hollow space behind airbrakes and landing gear bays... I shall quit ranting here lol.

This kit is most likely a copycat version of the early Hasegawa kit (first released in 1963, if Scalemates is correct), and you can even tell from the high similarity between the Hasegawa one's rebox in 1973 and the Academy one's rebox in 1985. See my last image for the box art comparison.

Overall, not optimal decals and fitting, lack of details, not THAT bad for a kit with this age and price (paid $8.99 CAD before tax).

I will definitely build more F-104s...
